Snow Plowing & Salt Guidelines

DO NOT shovel snow into the street.  It is an unlawful practice and you may be ticketed (Ordinance 423.14). Additional snow in the streets cause build up problems for the plows, your neighbors and fire hydrants.

Sidewalks need to be cleared of all accumulated snow and/or ice within 48 hours from the time snow ceases to accumulate.  Do not deposit any snow or ice onto any public streets, alley, sidewalk, or public lands.  Failure to remove snow and/or ice will result in the Village removing snow  and/or ice and the cost will be charged to and paid for by the property owner. Ordinance 423-10 (c).

In case of a fire, firefighters need to be able to get to hydrants quickly to protect people and property.

* Remove any snow and ice from the hydrant

* Clear a wide enough perimeter to walk around it (about 3 feet)

* Clear a path from the hydrant to the street
