Hwy 20 Railroad Crossing Construction

UPDATE 05/01/2025: The road will close one week early starting on May 12th.

The 2025 WIS 20 construction project is looking to start back up on Monday, May 12 with the closure of WIS 20 between Sterling Circle and County ES in East Troy. Below are some quick details about the project and a rough schedule.

Details:

  • WIS 20 will be detoured using I-43 and US 12  
  • The I-43/WIS 20 interchange will be open during this stage
  • Access to businesses located between Sterling Circle and County ES will be maintained
  • Anticipated to be completed by mid-late July 

Rough Schedule (Weather Dependent)

  • May 12 to May 19 – Remove the remaining WIS 20 concrete pavement around the railroad tracks and place aggregates
  • May 19 to June 9 – East Troy Electric Railroad will replace their crossing
  • June 9 to mid/late July – Curb and Gutter, sidewalk, asphalt paving, pavement marking, signing, and restoration activities.

Traffic:

  • Access to Dollar General can be made by taking WIS 20 west across County ES, using the median opening for Shell/McDonalds/Culvers, and going west on the WIS 20 EB lanes.
  • Access to Shell/McDonalds/Culverts can be made using WIS 20 west across County ES to the median opening for the left turn like the current configuration. There are other accesses off County ES as well that will stay open.
  • Access to the Oak Ridge Cemetery is available by using WIS 20 WB lanes.
  • The I-43/WIS 20 interchange will remain open
  • County ES will remain open but the right turn lane for County ES SB to WIS 20 WB will close for sidewalk and grading.
